National Authority for Remote Sensing and the Arab Academy organize a workshop “On Artificial Intelligence and Launching Educational Satellites”

- Students’ success in launching “miniature” educational satellites

Under the patronage of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, in cooperation with National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, organized a workshop on “Satellite engineering and technology, space sciences, and artificial intelligence in applications of remote sensing and geographic information systems.” This is located at the Academy’s College of Engineering and Technology headquarters in Heliopolis, Cairo.

In his speech, Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, welcomed all attendees, stressing the importance of the role of National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, headed by Dr. Islam Abu Al-Majd, in building human capabilities for advanced specializations for future generations, and in supporting efforts to develop the educational process and research activities in cooperation. With Egyptian universities and various educational and research institutions.

For his part, Dr. Islam Abu Al-Majd, Chairman of National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, thanked the Academy family for hosting this important event, stressing the continued cooperation and mutual support between the two sides, noting that the ultimate goal of this cooperation is to help qualify graduates to be qualified. They are able to meet the requirements of the local, regional and international labor market, explaining that artificial intelligence and cloud computing are being used in education and scientific research to simulate the future. Pointing out that an updated memorandum of understanding is being prepared between the Authority and the Academy, to keep pace with the requirements of future jobs in the fields of computers, information, engineering and various departments.

The workshops aim to present the latest results of scientific research, and to come up with recommendations that would create a more sustainable environment in line with policies and trends in force around the world.

The expanded workshop witnessed the presence of students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology from the Academy’s branches in Heliopolis, the Smart Village, the Faculty of Arts and Design, and the Faculty of Computers and Information Technology, on artificial intelligence in applications of geographic information systems and remote sensing, in addition to architectural engineering applications using the latest laser photogrammetry systems, under Supervised by experts from National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences.

These events are organized in cooperation between the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, and the Military Survey Department of the Egyptian Armed Forces, in addition to a distinguished group of specialized companies, including Edge Pro, Adri, Like Air System, and Al-Massa Concept. Autodesk Company, and the Faculty of Engineering, Al-Azhar University.

On the sidelines of the workshop, a competition was organized to design and launch miniature educational satellites, “CANSAT,” and a group of academy students participated in designing and launching it, under the supervision of experts from National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences. To achieve the most possible benefit from the workshops through practical application, data from the satellite was also successfully received, and the attendees praised the great efforts made by Dr. Dalia Al-Feki, Head of the Space Structures and Environment Department and the main supervisor from the Authority, in training the students so that they would achieve the maximum possible benefit from the training.

The events witnessed the presence of Colonel Muhammad Ola, Head of the Research and Development Branches of the Military Survey Department, on behalf of Major General Staff of War / Muhammad Mustafa Radwan, Director of the Military Survey Department, Engineer Wissam Abdel Fattah, founding member of Idea Pro, Dr. Yasser Galal, Dean of the College of Engineering at the Naval Academy, and Dr. Ali Amasha, President The Remote Sensing Unit, and a group of faculty members and responsibility centers at the Academy.
